Julia has practised as a documentary artist for many years. Documentary artists draw live action as it takes place just as War Artists or documentary film crews do.
Commissions have included sports venues, factories, film sets & theatres,
building sites and all manner of locations.

Current project:-

Julia is currently DLA Piper Artist in Residence for the new LJMU Art & Design Academy. As the new DLA Piper Artist in Residence, Julia will be documenting not only life in the firm's offices on Water Street but also the ongoing regeneration of Liverpool's city centre. "Thanks to DLA Piper's sponsorship I will be chronicling the development of the University's new £23 million Art and Design Academy, currently being developed on a site close to the Metropolitan Cathedral. The Academy is a major cultural building scheduled to open during 2008 when Liverpool is European Capital of Culture". Thus drawings are being produced of everyday life in the corporate workplace alongside drawings depicting the frenetic activity of a modern construction site.

Recent Documentary Projects :-

Artist in Residence Chester Roman Amphitheatre. This project records the excavation of Chester's Roman Amphitheatre during the summer of 2004. Copies of "Amphitheatre" the fully illustrated catalogue are available from Julia Midgley @ £6 99p plus 75p postage. e mail julia@juliamidgley.co.uk

Julia acted as a documentay Artist recording events at the Arts Council North West of England conference Art 04. Later in the year the Walker Art Gallery Liverpool commissioned her to document a day in the Gallery during their Art Behind Barbed Wire exhibition. This mirrored the activities of the German artist internees from Huyton camp whose work featured in the exhibiton.

Artist in Residence at Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospital 1997 - 99,
exhibition, book, and tour. Acquisitions were made by the Wellcome Foundation, National Museum of Science & Industry and the Royal College of Surgeons.
